Sneak Peek: Sunset Valley Revamp

Hello all! I wanted to give you a preview of what's to come in my legacy while I hammer out my plans for the next few chapters. I've decided to move the Bee's to a new neighborhood, simply because Lucky Palms is starting to annoy me. I really like the layout of Sunset Valley, and I think that SV is a little more versatile. I felt limited in LP since most of the structures are southwestern themed or mid-century modern--I wanted more options. I also got annoyed by how spread out LP is (which is a weird complaint, I know) So, in my free time, I've been revamping SV in CaW. I wanted to make it more of a coastal tourist town, maybe a little like Avalon Village on Catalina Island. This is what I've done so far:

I did not realize how long it takes to place trees, rocks, etc. I haven't changed the map much, except to expand one area near the mountains/simhenge. I'm turning that part into a little trailer park, complete with a rundown strip mall and a drive-in diner.

I turned Central Park into a little town square. It has a small park, a community garden, the bookstore/spa, a salon, a consignment store, a grocery store, and a bistro.

Across the street is the fire station and a coffeehouse. I'm going to put a bar between them:

The library is going to take forever:

I also created a nice little beach bar:

I created a boardwalk, too. I'm planning to download a ferris wheel to make it make board-walky:

This is an unfinished port or pier or something (I didn't get any farther than adding boats and going "Okay, good enough"):
That pier is where the little beach in front of the Wolff house used to be. I added a waterfall that streams out from the rock, and put a 50x50 lot where the Wolff house was. That lot is eventually going to host my legacy house.

Building is taking forever (obvs) so I'll probably plop down some premade houses to speed up the process. I have to admit I'm quite proud of the town square, though. I can't wait to send my simmies out into this world.

I've also obviously been away for awhile; I was very ill for a couple of weeks, and I had to finish up a lot of work at the end of the semester. I posted to MTS a couple of days ago promising a new chapter ASAP. However, shortly after I posted to MTS, I received a call informing me my grandfather passed away. Thus, I haven't felt much like writing the past couple of days (but I have gotten a shit-ton of mindless building done). I'll try to start writing this week. Needless to say, my next chapter will probably be a little lighthearted. The next few chapters will also still take place in LP while I finish up SV.

Thanks for all your patience. I have to be honest--I would have given up on Polly & Co. a long time ago if it weren't for you all. <3

  1. Ahh, so that's what's been keeping you so busy! You're ambitious. That's got to be a lot of work. I love the boardwalk that doubles as a showtime venue. The Central Park sounds fantastic, and having a few of those rabbit holes on the same lot will clear up space elsewhere. Great work!

    1. And yes I completely agree about LP being so spread out. It takes forever to get anywhere in that town!

    2. Thanks! I am probably a little too ambitious. I was working on this so much last night that I didn't realize I stayed up until 6AM. ^^;; It's been kind of relaxing to just focus on building for awhile, though. I'm really trying to conserve space and provide my sims with a lot of community lots.

LP is way too spread out, and Polly is a collector. I might have stayed if my next gen had rolled a normal career, but that wasn't the case...

    3. It's way too easy to get lost in CAW. The entire reason I ever looked for a challenge that led me to the Random Legacy thread was because I'd spent the entirety of 2012 in CAW and wasn't actually *playing* the game >__< And the allure is still there. A couple weeks ago a girl on tumblr asked me to make Oasis Landing into a homeworld. I'm like "sure, give me an hour". a week later... "Here's three versions of the world...and an extra lot with the missing rabbit holes" LOL.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather. My gran passed only a month a go. Anyways, wow! I like how your central park area looks. Actually, all of what you've shown of your version of Sunset Valley looks great. I'm not much of a builder but everything looks great. I cant wait to see the Bees in their new home. I've never commented on your legacy before (I'm pretty sure I havent anyway) but I've been reading and enjoying every minute of it.

    1. Thank you, and my condolences. My grandmother also passed away about 5 months ago, so it's been a rough year in terms of loss.

Thanks! I've been using a lot of reference photos to make my lots. I don't think you've ever commented before either--I really appreciate your kind words. I'll get back to writing soon, and hopefully we'll get to see SV in action in a few chapters. :)

  3. Condolences on your loss.

I am giddy at the thought of more Bees! I love the boardwalk and what you are doing with SV. I must say I will miss the gang being in LP though, I really liked what you did with it!

"Not a normal career" for the next-gen alien invader, lol. Can't wait!

    1. Thank you.

I really love LP, but it was just tooooo much. Moar Bees will be here soonish.

I was kind of hoping for a normal career, but the next gen's career is going to be fun (maybe). :D

  4. Oh no! I'm so sorry. What a rotten month it sounds like.

Geez, your build skills always make me so jealous. And a boardwalk! <3 I've actually got to go build one of those and I'm terrified. But SV is for sure a neighborhood with a lot of potential for anyone willing to put in the work and what you have so far looks awesome!

    1. It has been a rotten month, but I have a month off until I go back to work, so I have time to unwind now.

Aww, thank you! Building is really relaxing to me. SV is really versatile, and I like the fact that it's not "themed." As much as I like ST, LP, MH, and other neighborhoods, SV is nice and pleasant.

  5. Everything looks really good! I've been doing the same thing with Moonlight Falls. So much so that I ended up editing it enough in CAW to just rename it and install it as another town instead of an overwrite. Yay for moves. I look forward to seeing your next generation here!

    1. Thank you! It's very consuming work, as I'm sure you know. I can't wait until seeing your next gen in MF! It seems everyone is moving. ;)
